NARRATIVE ESSAY
It is
commonly assumed that everybody loves their own country. Nevertheless, it is
typically observed that the younger generation in this modern era always seems
to be insensitive regarding their country and distant with emotions that
trigger the sense of patriotism. There are a few causes of this issue happened
such as lack of patriotism sense towards the country, low self-esteem of
feeling proud of the country and the dedication of parents.
First of all, the main root cause of this issue is due to the lack of patriotic spirit in oneself. A lack of appreciation towards the history of the country, especially youngsters born after Malaysia's independence is less emphatic about the history and Malaysian background. They do not have a good understanding of the country’s history and not even having the willingness to sacrifice for the sake of our country. This indirectly resulting in a lack of compassion and love in our own country. It's a pity to acknowledge that such phenomenon proved through a statistic on the percentage agree that oneself is patriotic conducted in 2016 showed the result that generation z(known as Gen z in short form) which represents youngster is just 46%, the smallest percentage of it.
Besides, low self-esteem to be proud of our own country also leading to this issue too. Once someone started to issued about other countries unique cultures or advanced facilities, oneself would start questioning their own country deficiency. Let’s say when we talk about holidays or looking for vacations or trips, most of us will find a tourist destination abroad rather than our own country. Everyone is searching for a developed country as their destination choice for instance United States(US) which is the largest economy and most productive in the world. Think for a moment, why would we act like this? This kind of situation becomes a hardship to form a society that genuinely embraces the spirit of patriotism.
Borderless world may result in a foreign culture getting into the country easily. The dedication from parents themselves is the key point. Parents, the closest individual to children supposed to be a role model cultivating the patriotism spirit in their mindset. Instead, it is a pity to acknowledge that parents always praise other countries. They are influenced by other countries from several aspects of culture, lifestyle, foods and attires. It's not forced to adapt but it's started to trend in their own country by majority agreements. For example, Japan has unique cultures and advanced facilities that influence parental attitudes which they admired and proud of it and so even their children have been adapted since young of the foreign culture in the family. Consequently, it could cause difficulties to instill the spirit of patriotism among them.
In conclusion, it is undeniable of the seriousness of this issue happening in our life. Therefore, the community should not take this matter lightly. Every single of us must look into possible ways of finding a solution for this issue.
