STEP 5 : DECISION MAKING; SELECT THE BEST SOLUTION (INTERVIEW WITH EXPERT)

In this stage, one of our group members is the person-in-charge in handling the interview part. The interview is conducted after finding a suitable and convenient timing for both of them via a telecommunication application, Skype. An interview has then planned and carried out with an expert on discussing our group's selected issue. Before moving on to the topic, we first asked regarding the expert background in order to get to know the expert. Subsequently, we've proposed certain questions to the expert which is the expert opinion about our selected issue, expert opinion on the idea of solutions given by our group, and the opinion about the best solution from the expert.

We've planned and met up together via Whatsapp as a discussion platform to have a discussion session regarding the issue. Before getting started, we watched the recorded interview video conducted to have a clear look at the entire interview session. The expert gave her own opinion of the issue saying that the mentality of Malaysians tends to show off their luxury of life and hence having a sense of pride. The natural attitude of human beings who always want to compete with each other, especially anything else related to the wealth of life. Why would they choose to go abroad? This stems from their mindset thinking that traveling in a country has no class. Instead, they tend to travel abroad which they feel higher of the standard from their point of view. They think and feel of those foreign countries with a wide range of modern facilities are really spectacular and magnificent. Moreover, youngsters do not have a patriotic spirit in their souls. In fact, they are the one who are expected to be the pillars of government in the future have a very shallow knowledge of their own country, thus lacking interest in appreciating the history of the country. Additionally, lack of appreciation for the history of the country, especially those born after Malaysia's independence lacks a good understanding regarding the history of the warriors struggled in the process of gaining independence and the background of our beloved country.

Furthermore, the expert provided her opinion about the list of solutions from our group. For the first solution is education roles. The expert stated that education plays a crucial role in this scenario. The education system can help in educating and exposing young people regarding the history and background of nation in schools. This is said as efforts can be made to inculcate the values of peace, harmony, and unity among youngsters which encourage them to grow into responsible youngsters. In the next solution, the expert share her opinion that youngsters should stop focusing on the shortcomings of our country and those that our country cannot offer. Instead, they should be aware of and expect for the good ones. Let's say of the unique culture existing from a combination of various races, religions or cultures which is an extraordinary aspect that our country has. They must learn to appreciate and therefore feel proud of it. In addition, young people should start thinking and doing things that will make them proud of their own country. The effort they can contribute is for example to give advice and suggestion to their parents to travel in the country rather than traveling abroad during meetings on discussions about travel or holiday destinations. Moving on the last solution, the role of parents in cultivating the spirit of patriotism of children is totally undeniable. They should be brought up since childhood years due to the reason that if children love their country of origin, they will grow up appreciating the heritage, culture, social values, history, diversity and striving to improve the country in aspects of their lives whether intellectually, socially or economically. Hence, parents must speak highly about the country in front of them and Find good things to say about our country to let them know more of it. Another thing is that parents should carry the responsibility teaching them to respect the country and also national symbols such as the National Anthem and the National Flag. They must be taught of the etiquette for instance respect for state figures, do not ever insult Malaysian flag and standing upright whenever the national anthem is played.

Lastly, expert provide some of her ideas and opinions of the best solution for our issue before ending the interview session. In accordance to expert, the role of parents in instilling the spirit of patriotism among youngsters is the best solution. This is said so because expert thinks that parents can be said to be the closest individual with a child since childhood. Therefore, it is the parents who are responsible for shaping the child who is likened to white cloth through simple approaches such as storytelling practices. The story of the past when the country has not experienced modernity should be explained to the children so that they understand the meaning of the sacrifices of the fighters and leaders of the country that has brought about such a big change. The child who always listens will begin to slowly understand the life he is experiencing now due to the sacrifices of the previous people as well as appreciating the services of the fighters of the previous country and then dreaming of also doing service to the nation and the nation. Thus, the importance of parents often talk about the changes in the development of the country that leads to their spirit and desire to delve into the history of Malaysia.

Right then after listening and referring to the expert's point of views, our group have discussed, made a decision and came into a consensus of the final best solution for our issue. We agreed on choosing the last solution out from the solutions list, educational as the best solution for the issue which is opposing the opinion of best solution from expert.

This is due to a few reasons as below. A youngster will spent almost eleven to twelve years to learn about our country's background, history in the past and ethics. As a result, youngster will learn have a sens of appreciation towards their country more at school with the guidance from educator. In education system, schools and institutions should organise more patriotism events and activities. For instance, celebrating Independence day can serve as a good opportunity to discuss national issues and current affairs over a special meal, dress in the national colours and also consume patriotism related media such as movies, books, or documentaries. Besides, a democratic debate competition can be held. Take up a current issue occurred in nowadays society and itemize the pros and cons between two teams. Discuss on the reasons agreeing or opposing with one’s decision. In order to bring some excitement into it, school could reward their efforts in different appealing ways such as in form of cash and certificate as authentication of their hard works.

Those are the bonus points where eductaional method is better than others. Hereby, we believe that it is the right choice made choosing educational roles as the best move.

Be proud of who we are and be proud that our country has played a part in you being the great person you have turned out to be. Youngster must be the prime movers of our country's transformation, hence it's utmost important of youngsters in line with the aspiration of a united Malaysia. Dear youngster, let's love our nation starting from today which leads to a peaceful country and well being of the community!
